Many eBay craft sellers have left the site to establish storefronts specifically for handmade items like Etsy, Dawanda, Artfire and many others. But eBay still continues to be a strong market for some types of craft products.
I was recently interviewed for an article appearing at the Association of Artisan Businesses. Read the full article here. Three reasons eBay might still be a good market for some time include:
1) You can sell your crafts at any time of the year. A little research revealed that crafted Christmas ornaments made by hand were selling on eBay in the months after the Christmas holidays. Of course, you will sell more in the months before the holidays.
2) You can discover which crafts are actually selling. eBay is the only place I have found that lets you lets you view “completed listings” in the category your work might match like artwork or handcrafted products. eBay displays the completed listings and you can not only learn how much people are willing to pay for items, you can see the winning auction pages (useful for setting up your own listings).
3) You can sell 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to a global audience. eBay is big in other countries besides the USA. If your business can handle shipping overseas, you can grow into an international business.
If you have been considering eBay, but are not sure where to start learning how to make money selling handmade crafts on eBay, see my book Sell Your Crafts on eBay.
