How to Choose the Right Keywords to Rank High in the Search Engines and Sell Your Crafts Online

Some web sites get loads of free traffic from the search engines. Others get none or little. The difference is in choosing the words or phrases people are actually using every day in their searches.

Spend a little time writing a list of 20 to 30 words or phrases that describe what your customers might type in to find you. How can you learn how many times those words are actually being used?

Enter a keyword or a phrase you are researching at WordTracker. Take the "Trial" version which you can use as many times as you like for free.

WordTracker will give you a report on how many searches were done for that keyword and other related search terms that include the word(s).

This report helps you identify keywords to optimize your web pages around -- exact keywords people are using in their searches every day.

Here is a sample of search results in a 24 hour period from entering the keyword phrase "gift basket" at WordTracker.

Numbers in the "Count" column are searches from the WordTracker database. Numbers in the "Predicted" column are the estimated total Internet searches. In the "Keywords" column is a list of related terms that people search for.

An estimate of over 2,700 (that's 81,000 per month) searches were done in a 24 hour period for "gift basket". If your site came up in the top ten of those search results, you would get a tremendous boost in traffic.

Keep in mind that it’s more useful to get qualified, prospective customer/visitors, as opposed to an increase in generic traffic.

Say that you sell fruit gift baskets from your web site. You will sell more by ranking high for the less-popular, but specific keyword phrase like "fruit gift baskets" than attempting to be number one for more popular phrase "gift baskets."

Chances are good that the competition is too heavy to waste time trying to rank high for the phrase "gift basket", but you can discover that in seconds, too.

WordTracker gives you a report on how many other sites compete with your keywords and then an estimate of what your chances are for getting a top ranking page.

If you are at all serious about capturing the free traffic from search engines, WordTracker can put you way ahead of any competition. And you can use the limited edition free trial as often as you like.

I use this tool myself with great results. Many of my web pages have achieved the number one position for my keywords at the major search engines. I get anywhere from 500 to 1,000 unique visitors every day from all of my web sites. Targeting the right keywords is the reason.

I hope you will take advantage of this free service. If you want a traffic explosion on your web site, consider subscribing to the full version of WordTracker.
